November virtual AT PD events

Wow – what a busy and rewarding year for our AT PD workshops! 2021 has seen over 300 ATs engage in these valuable learning opportunities, with overwhelmingly positive feedback received.

For new ATs or those yet to attend a workshop, we encourage you to register now so you can look ahead to 2022 with increased confidence, skills and knowledge.

Alternating between our ‘Clear Communication’ and ‘Effective Mentoring’ topics, final workshops for the year will be held on Thursday 4 November, Thursday 11 November, Thursday 18 November and Thursday 25 November at 7.00pm.

Once again, as a small gift of thanks, we have a set of Alphabet Magnets to send to each AT who submits our feedback form following a workshop.

Our first topic Clear communication: Strategies to enhance your mentoring relationship stems from the concept that effective communication is key for a successful mentoring partnership, as clear expectations, goals and discussions support students and ATs to develop their thinking and practice. This workshop will provide you with strategies to support clear communication, such as having courageous conversations and exploring goal-setting practices.

Key takeaways:

• Exploring effective communication practices within mentoring.
• Strategies for effective communication to challenge, affirm and grow thinking and practice for both the student and AT.
• Techniques for having critical conversations and discussions surrounding the importance of these.

Effective mentoring: Beginning steps for ATs is recommended for new ATs or those looking for a refresher update, and will support you to enhance your leadership and role as a mentor. Through collaborative conversations and reflective questions, ATs will explore key expectations and practices to support students during Field Experience and Field Practice.

Key takeaways:

• Practices to promote effective mentoring in Field Experience and Field Practice.
• Exploration of what it means to be an effective mentor in line with the Standards for the Teaching Profession.
• Implementing the NZTC Progression Document to enhance your mentoring.
